A Little History Lesson
Originally intended to be called Orangedale by Albert G. Utley, a Rhode Island banker, Scottsdale was named after Chaplain Winfield Scott around 1894. A few years prior, for a mere $3.50 per acre, Chaplain Scott purchased land north of Indian School, south of Chaparral, between Scottsdale and Hayden roads. It was inteded to be used for farmland. In 1894, Albert G. Utley, a banker from Rhode Island, purchased the land just south of the Scott property, which in turn ended up being called Scottsdale.
What was once a small farm is now known as the preferred city of choice in the Greater Phoenix Metro Area. Bordered on the east by the Indian reservation, and on the west by Paradise Valley and Phoenix, Scottsdale extends north to Cave Creek, and south to Tempe. Because Scottsdale has become land-locked, for the most part, in combination with the phenomenal 8 months of excellent weather, it is a premier location with some of the most expensive properties in the state, and values, although not immune to market influence, tend to increase faster than the rest of the valley.
The wide variety of housing in Scottsdale makes it universally affordable. Whether you’re in the market for a quasi-mansion in the multi-million dollar range, or just a simple condo-conversion, great for investment, at the sub 100K range, Scottsdale has what you’re looking for.
Night life and restaurants dominate the Arizona scene in Scottsdale where some of the most beautiful people on the planet go to play. One of my favorite spots is Kazimierz World Wine Bar in the heart of downtown Scottsdale.
